Addictions Counselors Program at Oregon State Hospital

(Available to Oregon State Hospital staff only)

Mission

To provide state-of-the-art addictions treatment services to patients with co-occurring disorders using interventions that are culturally competent and based on scientific evidence.

A special budget has been allocated to sponsor hospital staff dedicated to helping patients with substance use disorders. Staff who participate in this program receive clinical supervision by experienced addictions counselors. Addiction Counselor Program candidates work toward building knowledge and developing skills in the following competency areas: 

Foundations

Understanding addiction

Treatment knowledge

Application to practice

Professional readiness

Practice Dimensions

Clinical evaluation

Treatment planning

Referral

Service coordination

Counseling: Individual, Group

Client, family, and community education

Documentation

Professional and ethical responsibilities

 

 

Because of the sizeable investment for addictions counselor, the expectation is that OSH staff pursuing CADC (Certified Alcohol, Drug Counselor) or MAC (Master Addiction Counselor) designations will provide addictions-specific treatment services for at least two years upon successful completion of the certification process.
