OSH Staff Library - Salem

The OSH Staff Library is a part of the Education and Development Department.  Its materials and services are available primarily to employees and volunteers of the Oregon State Hospital.  Clients and families may request in-house materials through treatment staff.

In-House Collection

The library maintains a small on site collection of professional books, journals and audiovisual materials mainly related to mental health, psychiatry and psychology.  All materials may be checked out with the exception of journals. Upon request, photocopies or e-copies of specific articles will be provided. Suggestions for additions to this collection are welcome.

Reference Service

Employment and continuing education related materials may be requested through inter-library loan. There is no direct cost to individual departments.  Article requests are usually filled within a day or two.  Books and media take longer. Staff may file their requests directly through the Oregon State Library or ask the Staff Librarian to search out and obtain materials on their behalf.  Specialized literature searches by subject and format are available. State library databases and other websites may be consulted to provide timely and reliable resources to fulfill requests and support evidence based practices. Requests through the Staff Librarian may save an individual valuable time and effort.

Training

The Staff Librarian can provide training to individuals or groups in use of library resources.  Upon request, the Staff Librarian will also coordinate hands-on database searching workshops on site, in conjunction with the State Library staff.

Facts

The library is located in the Kirkbride building on the third floor in the Education and Development Department.  It is open 8 to 5, Monday through Friday. Check-out of materials is on a self service basis. It is staffed by a half time professional 8-12 M, W, F and 11-3 T, Th.  Requests are always encouraged by visiting in person, by email or through inter-campus mail. Everyone is welcome.
