Procedure

The following steps are to set the password protect and automatic screensaver features for Windows NT, 2000, and XP operating systems. Users with operating systems other than those listed, should contact the Help Desk at 503-945-5623, or their local technician, for assistance.

To set the password protect and automatic screensaver features:

  1. Minimize any open applications on your desktop.
  2. Right-click an empty area of the desktop and choose Properties.
  3. Go to the Screensaver tab.
  4. Select a screensaver from the pull-down menu. (Users must select a screensaver option.)
  5. Check the password protect box, or for XP, the "on resume, password protect" box.
  6. Locate the wait _ minutes options and set the time to 5 or fewer minutes.
  7. Click on the Apply button and/or OK to update the screensaver properties.

The password protected screensaver is now set to automatically come on when the computer is idle for the time selected. When locked, the screen will display the selected screensaver.

To resume use of the computer (unlock the screen), users will need to enter their Novell login password in the window displayed.
