Overview: How to use this Resource

Patron

The DHS Foster Parents Lending Library was set up several years ago to serve the needs of Oregon's foster care community. Since that time, our holdings have grown, both in scope and size to include not just books, but a variety of different multimedia resources, such as audio tapes, compact disks, video tapes and DVDs. The library also hosts a number of Spanish-language and bilingual materials. This library is Free for Oregon Foster, Relative, and Pre-Adoptive Parents.

To better manage this dynamic collection of resources, DHS decided to setup a "Library Management System," (LMS). This is a Web-based solution that allows our users and staff to browse the collection as well as reserve and check-out materials. It makes it easier for Foster Parents to obtain materials in a timely manner, and allows DHS staff to better serve the foster care community with efficient management tools built into the system.

Like any new system, the operation may seem daunting at first. But with this series of online tutorials, we hope to have you up and checking out books in no time! To start with, we are making the assumption that the patrons of the Lending Library have some basic computer skills and hardware, including Internet access and using a Web browser. You will also need to have the free Adobe Flash player installed on your system. (click the Next Page below to continue).
