Web Application Style Guidelines

Web application design standards have been developed for both internal and external applications.

Internal DHS applications should have a similar look to the intranet (under development) as shown on this page and outlined below. The style sheet for this page shows how and what "images are used, height, width and placement of sections and items, fonts, headings etc. on the page.

Header. The header background color can be either the bright gold or darker gold colors. For design consistency you should choose one or the other throughout an application. "images are provided to use in the header background.
Application name. The name of the application should appear in the left side of the header.
Branding colors. Each division has a brand color represented by the division brand color bars. If an application is for a specific division's use, it should have this color bar. If an application is to be used by all employees department-wide, it can have no color bar or one of the DHS color bars.
Top horizontal menu. A menu in this location is optional but if no menu is used a black color bar should still show here.
Left menu. A menu in this location is optional if a top menu is used. If a left menu is used, the background color should be gray, #F4F4F4. Menu item text is black with a white background when it is moused over. Separators are a 1px dotted border or a graphic can be used.
