Searching: Finding What You Want

Search

In order to locate a title in the library, you must search for it. There are three ways to do this; the Basic Search, (accessable at the top of each page), the Combo Search and the Expert Search, both of which are accessed via the Search item on the left hand menu. The last two techniques are explained in detail under the Library's Help Menu. This tutorial will only deal with the Basic search.

Terms and Types

There are several different ways to look for a title, and several different types of materials as well. The pull-down menus in the basic search system allows you to narrow your search by specific criteria or media types, (right). For example, if you wanted to find all the books in the library that have the words "Foster Care" in their titles, you would type in Foster Care in the text box, and then choose Title and Book from their respective menus.

It is wise to avoid using the ALL and ALL MATERIALS, (default) settings. It tends to increase each time, as well as returning many results. Click the Go button to initiate the search. The results will be displayed, with each title being a link. Clicking on one of those links takes you to a separate page for the title, which lists all the relevant information for that item. Click the Next Page button below to run the Demo.
